Pressure Vessel: Div. 2 replacement by a Div. 1 Vessel
Pressure Vessel: Div. 2 replacement by a Div. 1 Vessel
(OP)
Hello:
From reading the discussion board, this seems to be a great place to learn more and have questions answered. I look forward to interacting with all of you!
Now my question...:)
I am in the process of replacing a Div. 2 Vessel with a Div. 1 Vessel. Has anyone done this? If so, any idea on the cost it would take to accomplish this task?
Thanks in adavance!

The decision is a tecnico economical mater.
For small vessels the steel savings that you can get when selecting the Div 2, do nor pay the 100% radiography and the additional engineering cost. But in a bigger vessel loke 400 m3, you can save nearltyy 30 % of the steel and can be wortwhile.

ASME SECTION VIII, DIVISION 2, is in rewriten using CODE
CASE 2268-1 Jaunary 1, 2004,
Aleenative Ruel for Determining Allowable Ecternal Pressure and Compressive Stresses for Cylinders, Cones, Spheres, and Formed Heads Section VIIi, Division 1 and 2.

The 30% saving in steel cost is history. The safety factor of Div.1 allowable stress was reduced from 4 to 3.5 in the year of 1999. Compared to S.F. of 3 of Div.2, the difference is only about 15%.
