DESIGN OF LATERALLY LOADED PILES

DESIGN OF LATERALLY LOADED PILES

DESIGN OF LATERALLY LOADED PILES

(OP)
Is anyone familiar with the AllPile program and its ability to design laterally loaded piles.   I have downloaded the demo, which appears quite good, but before purchasing I was hoping to get some feedback.  Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

RE: DESIGN OF LATERALLY LOADED PILES

I've used Allpile extensively over the last few months.  I like it.  It's easy to use, produces nice output and has a lot of flexibility to adjust inputs.

I've had a couple of problems getting some of the non-lateral pile applications (such as footings and uplift anchors) to run properly, but otherwise it has worked well.

The manual is a little thin on detail and contains too many typos to inspire much confidence, so be sure you understand what the program is giving you and what methods/assumptions are embedded therein.

RE: DESIGN OF LATERALLY LOADED PILES

If the problem is large, complex or critical, stick with p-y curves and the current version of LPILE to model your problem.  Make good use of the technical support offered by the program's developers.

If the problem is small and simple, use Broms' hand methods.  They're fast, pretty cheap - and give results similar to those obtained from COM624/LPILE.
