Engineering drawing submittals for Wood trusses

Engineering drawing submittals for Wood trusses

Engineering drawing submittals for Wood trusses

Anyone know where I can read on the various requirements for sealed drawing submittals on wood trusses? Each jursidiction and state seems to have a different set of requirements for these. Are electronic seals acceptable? In other words can I print all the truss engineering sheets and stamp them electronically and send them as a pdf file to the city officials where the project is being built? I tried to look in the net and couldn't find any published guidelines for submittals. Is anyone familiar with these issues??

Thanks
Trussdude

RE: Engineering drawing submittals for Wood trusses

Simple answer is every state/jurisdiction is different.  There are even wide differences between cities/counties within same state.

I guess I will ask a rather direct question : Is a completely paperless office possible? Can I submit my Wood truss drawings to the city in a CD, with electronic form only? Does anyone know how many jurisdictions (or any at all) accept this form?
Thanks

RE: Engineering drawing submittals for Wood trusses

I think all jurisdictions will require hard-copy truss calcs so they can have a set to review at the job site. They won't want to be in the 'printer/copier business'.
Once you ship the drawings out to them though, you revert back to 'paperless' in your own office environment.

RE: Engineering drawing submittals for Wood trusses

E stamps are usually ok. But of course they must be printed as submitals.

More informtion can be obtained from the big truss software companies: Robbins, Mitek, Alpine, Truswal...etc.

To answer your question directly: No, a completely paperless office will never happen. If anything, and as dumb as this might sound, many firms have actually witnessed an increase in paper work with the wide spread use of computers! Unless you can take all the human beings off the job, paper will always be an essential part of the workplace.
