calibrator - beamex

calibrator - beamex

(OP)
hi,,

we had a brand new beamex calibrator, a multi function model.
but i had a problem about some of its "calibration result terminology" such as hysteresis, span error, absolute error, etc.

does anyone who is more advance using this equipment that is familiar with this terminology?

could you help me to clear up their meanings?

RE: calibrator - beamex

Hello fbcybil,
say you have an independent variable x and dependent variable y; you start measuring at X0 and you proceed in small steps (allowing to reach an equillibrium) towards Xfin and for each Xi you measure Yi. When at Xfin you go into reverse direction and again for each Xi record your Y it will not be the same Yi.You will get two paths, one for going up and one for going down and the hysteresis is proportional to the area among those two paths.
Absolute error is the difference between measured and true value, which you do not know so it is rather loose.
Instead of using ambiguous terms you'd better take a textbook on measurements or a standard and use precisely defined terms so that at least you will understand what you are speaking about.

RE: calibrator - beamex

Dear fbcybil
The words you are looking for are not somthing unique for Beamex.  What y'r missing is the basic knowladge in Instrumentation, different error types and calibration technics. When you get the results from the Beamex, how do you know if the checked instrument passed or failed?
If an instrument fail in some of the tests - what kind of certificate can you issue in order to use it? for those questions - some knowladge in the instrumentation field is needed...
