cheap high pressure pump recommendation

(OP)
Hello,

I am looking for cheap high pressure water pumps.  I mean, really cheap.  I need pressures of about 1000 psi and flow rate can be pretty low (no real flow restrictions).  A small pump would be better then a big one but it doesn't really matter.  I also want to be able to power it with a cheap ac motor.

Any ideas where I should look for such a thing?

Thanks so much.

RE: cheap high pressure pump recommendation

Lemme see...  heavily greased screw driven into a blind threaded hole by turning it with a belt driven by a shaded pole motor..

You want it to squirt more than once?  Costs more.
You want continuous flow?  Costs more.

How many will you be making?  How much tooling money have you got?

I want it too squrt more then once but it doesn't have to be continuous flow.  I was hoping for something just off the shelf.

You can buy car wash pumps at Grainger's and even places like Home Depot.

They don't give 'em away, but you can't make or buy _one_ for less.

Karcher or Gurney make good high pressure cleaners.

ok, I think I could make one cheaper then buying a whole pressure washer machine maybe.  Any ideas where I should be looking to get the basics on these kinds of pumps.  I assume they consist of a rotating piston since it would give high pressure but I don't really know.  That is just a guess.

RE: cheap high pressure pump recommendation

Try a high pressure cleaner second hand on Ebay and strip the pump out of it.

that's a really good idea actually.  Thanks

jwenzel, You could try a std fitted Hydra-cell F-20 close coupled or F-21 shaft driven. They are sturdy inexpensive pumps that will do what they say.

jwenzel,
If you need just the 1000 psi for a component pressure test, then a pneumatic pressure amplifier might be what you could use.  A valve test bench used a HASKEL pneumatic booster after the valve was first filled from water line.  A Google search bruoght up 50,000 items for the keywords "pneumatic pressure booster".  Sites to  check,

Thinking about it more, would a 3000 psi nitrogen gas cylinder provide enough life for the job?

Hand operated OK?
Wheeler Rex 1000 psi About $200 USD

I got and use the 300 psi model for pressure testing waterlines.  With it hand operated, overshooting the target pressure is not an issue.  the manufactorer also makes a drill motor attachment for motor operation.

You may have already solved your problem and I don't know if you are looking for something that is intended to pump water or something you can adapt to your use, but you might consider paint sprayers, also available at building material centers.  They have a small reciporicating piston pump that typically develops over 1500 psig and cost less than $100.

RE: cheap high pressure pump recommendation

Don't gorget safety!!!
You may end up buying a high pressure pump (10,000psi washer, say) with little or no safety protection. Buy your life insurance first or use the money buy a safe pump.
