Commissioning of MV VAC Breakers

Commissioning of MV VAC Breakers

(OP)
Dear Folks,

what are the recommended commissioning tests on replacement of medium voltage circuit breakers?!

I made a list that included CT ratio and polarity tests, hipot test for the bottles, resistance tests for the contacts, megger test for the insulation, finally, functionality test for breaker control/power circuits.

did I miss anything? do you know of a detailed guide or procedures to perform the functionality test, how to do  and what to expect in detailed, technical manner.

I appreciate your help and input.

best regards,

RE: Commissioning of MV VAC Breakers

Check out NETA MTS (Maintenance Testing Specifications) for equipment in service and ATS (Acceptance Testing Specifications) for commissioning new equipment.
http://www.netaworld.org/
The specifications are not free from NETA, but you can usually get them from a testing company or sometimes from other online sources.

RE: Commissioning of MV VAC Breakers

The missing tests are:
1.CT Test:
Magnetizing tests, Insulation resistance on secondary winding.Primary injection to determine ratio and stability.
2.Circuit breaker timing.

For the functionality tests: It depends which circuit breaker it is.Refer to the operation manual and the control circuit diagram to prepare a functionality test format which should contain Mechanical/electrical operation of CB from local/remote location, tests of mechanical/electrical interlocks, test of earthing switch operation, verification of panel indications(semaphore, indication bulbs etc.)

The tests you have mentioned and the ones I have added are I guess complete tests,it depends on the client what type of tests they want and also depends on what type of project it is( extension to existing switchgear, new switchgear, replacement of CB only+modification in control ckt.)
