Mechanisms suitable for Class 1 Division 1
Mechanisms suitable for Class 1 Division 1
(OP)
I have a mechanism which is run by an explosion proof motor and controls. For example, a slow moving overhead crane or inclined screw conveyor. We have steel scraping or rolling on steel.
My design must meet the specifications requirement written as "All equipment must be suitable for operation in a Class 1 Division 1 group C&D hazardous environment.
The electical aspects are easy. We deisgn to code.
I don't see how to do that for the strictly mechanical components,(sliding, rolling or hinging). Is there a code that applies? Ie spark proof?
Hope this generates some useful discussion, I cannot understand why this question is not raised more often.

You might want to make sure your design is reviewed by the customer to cover yourself. Sometimes when a place blows they look at the new equipment first.
