V5 Licence Hogging
V5 Licence Hogging
(OP)
Does anyone know of a way to prevent licence hogging in Catia V5?
We intend to procure limited numbers of certain specialist licences to cover our design / manufacturing requirements on a new program. However, using our standard Catia V5 licencing methods, once a user has selected one of these licences, they will automatically be allocated the licence, if available, every time they log on - whether they use the licence in that session or not - until either they de-select the licence, or their licence CATSettings are deleted. Users being the forgetful creatures that we are, this means that we will quickly reach a situation where some engineers who need the licences will be refused access, while others will have the licences but not actually need them.
Since we would prefer not to delete users' licence CATSettings every night, does anyone know of a way of forcing the system to release non-utilised licences? I know this may be more of a LUM question than a genuine Catia V5 question, but I'd be interested if anyone has a solution

If Beethoven had been killed in a plane crash at the age of 22, it would have changed the history of music...
and of aviation.

It looks like the temporary licence that we've been testing with can't be set up as shareable, but there should be no problems with the production ones.

IBM is aware of this problem, but I'm unaware of any fix.
If I were the admin, I'd set up multiple environments with different licence options and write an interactive launcher such that if the user knew s/he was going to be doing tubing, he'd pull the tubing environment (and thus the licence).
By default, it would just launch a standard environment with whatever licence configuration you use (MD2, HD2, AL2, etc.)
Yes, all this to avoid sharables. In my experience, they are terrible.
haha.. terrible sharables.
