RE: stainless steel melting prodceedure

Just in case you wish to melt 321 stainless please note that Ti would need a vacuum environment due to its high reactivity.

In case you were not aware of it, there is a relativley new forum dedicated to this subject:

Forum1135 - The forum's goal is to address any and all questions regarding stainless steel. It will help form the content of an upcoming book on stainless steel.

RE: stainless steel melting prodceedure

use clean and dry scrap. I suppose you have basic lining in te furnace. keep the melt covered and do not stir frequently. Add your alloys like LC FeCr, LC FeMn, FeSi just before tapping. If possible pass Argon gas. Add very small quantities of Se powder(20gms for 50 kgs) and CaSi to the stream while tapping.

With these few steps you should get a good metal poured into the shell.
