How to terminate an armoured cable?

How to terminate an armoured cable?

How to terminate an armoured cable?

(OP)
I've been investigating this topic, which is complicated by the diameter of said cable and the armour sheathing. I've been informed that the proper way to terminate an armoured cable is to use a special gland attached to a metal adaptable box, which is supposed to allow the armour to earth through the box. I'm not convinced this is all necessary - can't I use a plastic box and just twist the armour together and connect it to the earth wire in the cable inside the box? The cable I have is 3 core variety. Any help greatly appreciated.

RE: How to terminate an armoured cable?

In the oilfield, we did it both ways. Depended on what was available at the site (well overhauls not new installations). From code perspective, I do not know.

Ok I have another question on a related topic. I've been looking at adaptable boxes, and have found a candidate (black enamel finish, steel interior, 20mm knockouts), but I would need to get cable glands for this for the other cables coming out of the box. I was looking at this page: http://www.tait-components.com/ProductList.asp?iPage=2&search=cable+gland&product_class=&product_sub_class=&;product_sub_class_1= , since it is the same webby as the box comes from (cheaper delivery), but am puzzled as to what the dimensions mean - my small cables are rectangular cross section, 5x11mm and 8x4mm. Is that what this min/max refers to, or are these cable glands likely to be circular cross section, fitting cables of that range of diameters?

RE: How to terminate an armoured cable?

I am not much help. There info is rather vague and I am not used to how things are done outside of the US. Probably best to call the mfg.
