Can you expand on what "Desktop thin extrusions" are?

I haven't worked with any Mechanical Desktop files, but I know SolidWorks have been able to do thin extrudes for a very long time.

SW2004 can read MDT6 files, I don't know what version that SW2005 can read. You may have to experiment to see how it imports a thin wall extrude.

You have to have MDT installed on the machine before SW will import MDT files. As of SW04 SP3.0 or higher it supports MDT 4.0 or higher files. Same goes for SW05.
