Can anyone lists the advantages/disadvantages between a cam the has laminated heat treated steel pieces riveted together versus a solid replacement EDM cut or formed from powdered metal?

Probable advantages:
easier machining (stamping) possible without grinding
easier heat treatment to provide high hardness
no need for a forged tool steel
better toughness than monoblock or PM
favorable economics

Probable disadvantages:
assembly required
