Material Property/Texture Weirdness in Assemblies?

Material Property/Texture Weirdness in Assemblies?

(OP)
I have an assembly with some wood parts, to which I've applied the "Pine" material in the part file.  They display a nice woodgrain.  In the same assembly, I have some carriage bolts which I've applied the "Carbon Steel" material to.

In the part files, both parts display properly.  However, in the assembly the carriage bolts take on the woodgrain from the wood parts.

If I go back to the carriage bolt and uncheck the "Blend color" option, or remove the material, then everything displays correctly in the assembly.

Is this a known defect, a possible issue with my computer, or a setting that I may not be aware of?

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks,

Brian
