regarding recip compressor

regarding recip compressor

regarding recip compressor

(OP)
our compressors (recip) are equipped with spill back valves for better control system( step wise control is provided 0%,50%,75%,90%&100%).Our intention is to run the compressor with 0% spillback valve opening to minimise the waste energy.Since the downstream load varies , spillback valves opening also fluctuates. How to minimise the waste energy in such scenario.
What are the other sources to minimise the waste energy?
Is it necessary to keep some margin in spillbak opening in normal operating conditions?

THANKS
