fatal error when dropping a block using the design center

fatal error when dropping a block using the design center

(OP)
Hello.
I am running autocad 2000i with windows NT w/service pack 4.
I was dropping a block using the design center when all of sudden autocad just shut down with no warning.
Now every time when I try to drop a block with the design center I receive a fatal error message:
"Unhandled access violation reading 0x0004 exception at 26f217eh"
It then states autocad cannot continue and do I want to save my changes.  I select yes, but it doesn't work.
Is there a solution to this problem or do I have to reinstall autocad?
Your response is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
