Control valves B.16.34

Control valves B.16.34

Control valves B.16.34

(OP)
Which kind of NDT (RT,UT,or other...) can we do for the body (casting process) of control valves according to ASME B16.34 ?
Many thanks for the answer.

RE: Control valves B.16.34

Offsite,
Visuals, UT, RT, MPI and LPI can be used depending on the severity of the service.
If it is a low temp./low press. and non hydrocarbon/non critical application, a visual plus hydrotest plus seat leak test will do.
Above condition plus hydrocarbon, I will include MPI/LPI testing.
A high pressure and/or high temp. would call for a RT.

Visual inspection can be carried out in accordance with MSS-SP-55. This standard lists 12 types of surface defects and provides reference photographs for judging acceptable/non-acceptable imperfections.

Magnetic particle inspection can be performed in accordance with ANSI B16.34. This standard includes a table showing the maximum indications that are permissible. (Where magnetic particle inspection is impractical, such as for non-magnetic particles, dye penetration can be used in lieu of).

Radiographic inspection can be carried out in accordance with ANSI B16.34. This standard makes reference to ASTM E446 titled "Reference Radiographs for Steel Castings up to 51 mm (2 in.) in Thickness".
