Restructuring is not an option, so.....?

Restructuring is not an option, so.....?

Restructuring is not an option, so.....?

(OP)
A Sneakier trick……

I have a sub-assembly which I’ll call ‘clips’, that’s buried in assembly ‘Z’.

I need to re-structure it to frame ‘B’ sub-assembly.

Frame ‘B’ sub-assembly is outside and below assembly ‘Z’.

This ‘clips’ sub-assembly was used to drive cabling, so re-structuring it to frame ‘B’ sub-assembly will cause the cabling to collapse.

My desire is to show a representation of the ‘clips’ sub-assembly in frame ‘B’ sub-assembly, but without duplicating data in BOMs.  Thus I can’t simply assemble ‘clips’ sub-assembly into frame ‘B’ sub-assembly.

Firstly I tried to create a feature in frame ‘B’ sub-assembly, the feature containing the representation of the ‘clip’ sub-assembly.  I creating a shrinkwrap of the ‘clip’ sub-assembly, but the surfaces it produces don’t give the correct output on the drawing, the surfaces appear as wire-frames.

Next, I tried a skeleton solution.  I can’t create a skeleton from an existing assembly, but I can create a skeleton of an existing part.  Thus I created a solid shrinkwrap part from the ‘clips’ sub-assembly, and used this for the skeleton.

The skeleton prevents duplication of data in the top-level BOM, and the shrinkwrap was solid, so the drawing output is correct.

However, my solution is fiddly.  Does anybody have a sneakier trick?

Thanks in advance

Davey,

To give you a simple answer, If all you want to do is use the shrinkwrap part, try turning on the hlr_for_quilts config.pro option "hlr_for_quilts yes/no"

This config option when set to yes will cause pro/e to show the surfaces of the shrink wrap with hidden lines matching your view setting.

Hi Michael

Firstly thank you for taking the time to reply to my post.

We only change over to Wildfire 2 next month - presently we're on 2001.  I had looked for a work-around in drawing set-up, but found nothing.  The config option you suggest isn't in 2001 if I'm correct.

Can I be cheeky enough to say next?

Cheers

Dave

RE: Restructuring is not an option, so.....?

Hello Dave,

I just did a search and that Config option is valid for 2001.  Do Utilities > Options > Find then type in hlr....it will appear then just save it to your config file.

Michael's suggestion is valid

Best Regards,

Heckler

Do you trust your intuition or go with the flow?

Thanks Heckler

I did as you suggested, and found the config option.

Cheers mate
