Rotor pole keys material ?

Rotor pole keys material ?

Rotor pole keys material ?

(OP)
In large synchronous salient pole generators, does anyone know, what is the material (grade/specs) used for the wedge type, tapered pole fixing keys ? These keys are driven into the dove-tailed pole shanks and experience enormous compression load.

Thx in advance

RE: Rotor pole keys material ?

We had to perform a re-wind on a large, 4 pole generator rotor several years ago at one of our generating stations. I am going on memory here, but I thought the dove-tailed shaped keys in the pole slots were about 3/8" thick and were low alloy steel like AISI type 4140.

I might be able to find more information for you on Monday.
