load at failure

load at failure

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I am trying to determine the load on a bar at failure.  I know how to determine this at room temperature from looking at some old books, but this occured at elevated temperature.

Can anybody tell me where I could find proper material properties at working temperature?  The material is a common form of steel.

RE: load at failure

The ASM Metals Handbook Vol. 1 "Properties and Selection Irons , Steels and High Performance Alloys" has the data you require for many of the commonly used steels.

RE: load at failure

If failure occurred at elevated temperature it could have been caused by Stress Rupture which typically takes some time at a lower stress than that causing Hot Tensile Rupture. Failure analysis might provide some hints.
