Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

(OP)
Can anyone tell me if there is a standard which replaces ANSI/ASME Y14.5?

Thanks

RE: Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

ASME Y14.5M exists and still active.  You may find the standards by searching the originating organization instead of ANSI.  The current version is ASME Y14.5M-1994.

RE: Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

jsummerfield is correct.
Curious, why would you want to replace it? Or did you hear somewhere it was replaced?

RE: Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

There is a new standard to supplement Y14.5.  Check out ASME Y14.41-2003.

RE: Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

can anyone explain the proper use of
PROFILE when the part is dimensioned using +/-
tolerances instead of BASIC dimensions?

RE: Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

You can NOT use +/- tolerancing with profile.
All dimensions MUST be basic for the outside profile.

We just started a GD&T training class this morning and the instructor emphasised this point.

"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.

RE: Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

I concur w/ looslib.
using a +/- tol you are done right there.
Stacking another tol on top of that with Profile is not an option.

See Thread1103-118368 for a discussion of profile tolerancing.
