Alternative to PDM Works?

Alternative to PDM Works?

Alternative to PDM Works?

(OP)
So, here's the deal.  Can't seem to convince the people making the final decision to buy, that PDM Works is worth it.  I know, and you know otherwise.  So I've been asked to solve the problem by other means.  Here's the kicker, we have MatrixOne which is has a horrible interface and just needs to be activated (of course custom installed, setup, and training required).  I don't think there is a sustitute for PDMW, but does anyone know any others?  Has to be Cheap!  Thanks,

Doomed.

SolidsMaster:

If you want something good and cheap, you can use ACCESS to create your own PDM.  That's what we use at my company.  It works very efficiently.  But of course, you need to know ACCESS first.

Thanks for the list Blimey, already been that route.  IT thinks there might be a freeware out there....yeah right.  It's frustrating, they don't understand.

As for access, I've thought of it, but it's another DB that someone will need to setup, implement, maintain, etc.  and that just not in the plan.

It's a struggle.

Struggle is also a cost.

RE: Alternative to PDM Works?

John,
Do not worry, our management made the same mistake. We could not afford SmarTeam for everyone. So the drafters got a seat each. We had three floaters for the Designers, the Engineers got none. What happened was we lost more in engineering dollars than PDM Works would have ever cost us.
The Engineers would copy whole assemblies out to the net work, so that they would have the models when they needed them without having to find a drafter to get them the latest. What happened was the drafters had to re-mate all assemblies before putting them into SmarTeam using the model out of SmarTeam to make sure they had a released latest model.

Bottom line: Time is money and lost time is lost money.

FYI, if you upgrade to Office Pro then you get PDMWorks with that.  Might work for your company.  I think the maintenance jumps up to 1495 a year though.  I don't think there is an upgrade cost if you are currently using SW Office, might want to look into it.

RE: Alternative to PDM Works?

Just re-read your post guess you know about the PDMWorks.  Just goes to prove that anyone can read, but not everyone comprehends what they've read.

RE: Alternative to PDM Works?

Yogibear ... You really have to be Smarter than the average not to make a BooBoo now and then!
