Can anyone please advise typical cost comparison of using epoxy coated rebar versus uncoated high yield rebar, egs. initial construction costs, what are potential long term benefits when measured against any reduced maintenance requirements. Contract is very large and proposed in Middle-East.

Here in the US, the cost of reinforcing is converging.  That is to say, IMHO, that the demand for normal or "black" steel is decreasing and thus the price is rising.  On the other hand, the use of epoxy or "green" steel is increasing and the price is dropping or at least staying the same; it is not going up.

In the Midwest, the cost is about $0.60 to $0.9 per pound for black and about $1.00 pound for green.

If its not discussed, please keep in mind that there are some issues with failure of the coating and additional development length and so on.  Much of the discussion regarding this may be found in a CRSI report or perhaps from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

One last note, several states in the midwest use exclusively green steel in all brigde elements while others use it only for the deck.

In my experience, it seems like a number of states are finding a middle ground between epoxy coated bar and black bar, with superstructure concrete utilizing epoxy rebar and all substructure concrete utilizing black or plain rebar.
