searching for specific motor

(OP)
Hello everyone, I've been looking for a motor that I've found in the past just searching the net. The best way I can describe it is to say that it looks most like a bearing, you know the ones you can insert a shaft through the centre and it can be rotated independent of the other housing. I also understand that this motor is AC or DC, houses pemanent magnets and the hollow centre diameter varies depending on its application. For the life of me I can't find it again. All I need to know is the name of this type of motor and I can do the rest of the research. What is most important to my application is that it has a hollow centre and that the inner housing rotates independently from the outer housing.

Thanks
Robin Hooper

RE: searching for specific motor

Generically, it's called a 'torque motor', is usually custom made, and is often supplied without bearings of its own.

RE: searching for specific motor

E-Torq motors from Bodine have gotten a lot of ad time.

RE: searching for specific motor

Note the links above refer to limited-angle rotary actuators; possibly you are refering to continuous rotation devices e.g. spindle motors.  An example of one of these can be seen in the following link, where they refer to it as a shell-motor:
