Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

(OP)
I am looking for this book but on all the websites I serached it is referred to as out of print.

Does anybody know of any used books seller in North America where I can buy this book.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

Some university libraries have this book.  You might be able to get it from your local public library through inter-library loan.  It would be helpful to them if you search libraries on line ahead of time and tell them what you found.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

This book is probably very hard to buy.
I am looking for it too. Last year there
was a used copy asking for $1000 US at Amazon.com,
and that copy was gone too.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

My Dudley's Gear Handbook is published
by McGraw Hill.  Is this the same book?

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

To answer diamondjim's question:
the book we are looking for is edited
by Dennis P. Townsend, which is not
the one you have. Thanks.

Paulliu-- Wow . A used copy for $ 1000! It is unbelievable.

Diamondjim-- Dudley's Gear Handbook was Published by McGraw Hill. It is probably the same book. It was published twice as per my information . 1962 and 1991. The 1991 book was edited by Dennis Townsend.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

Is Townsend still at NASA?  I could check there
as it just a skip and a jump away.
Thanks for the information.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

Would appreciate if it is convenient. I am not sure if he is still at NASA or not. But he has published papers in Year 2003 thru' NASA.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

Darle Dudley has another book currently available called "Handbook of Practical Gear Design."  I do not have it, but maybe it is a suitable substitute.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

I can't find a copy of the 1991 Dudley's for sale either. My local library has one, so I will tell them they had better keep an eye on it. Dennis Townsend retired from NASA a few years ago. He is a gear consultant now. I see on the AGMA web page under consultancy that he moved to South Carolina.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

Got a copy of the book from the library and
see why someone would want to have this in
their permanent library.  Several chapters
have been added and some others appended.
I will have to keep my eye out for it at the
used tech stores when I am out and about.
Thanks for bringing it up on the forum.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

I will try to get it from my local library.

RE: Dudley's Gear Handbook by Dennis Townsend

You guys have got to be kidding. $1000?

I have a copy at home that I think I will lock up. I have an older version that I payed $1 for at a flea market. Hope no burglers are reading this.

There are some very handy manuals available from Buckingham. They are mostly equations for calculating just about anything to do with gears. Last one I bought was about $25. I believe it is his son that sells them, and they are reprints.
