Aluminum Flange Rating

We are evaluating a liquid nitrogen system that has 2" through 12" aluminum flanges. What is a source for pressure/temperature ratings for 6061 T6 aluminum flanges? There's nothing in ASME B16.5 for aluminum.

RE: Aluminum Flange Rating

Larry,

I'd be really leery of using Al alloys for a pipe flange.  Differential thermal contraction of the Al relative to steel botls may lead to loose bolts, and loss of seal.

RE: Aluminum Flange Rating

Aluminum flanges are commonly used in cryogenic systems.

The pressure ratings for aluminum flanges are provided in ASME B31.3, Appendix L.  They are provided in ASME B31.3 because ASME B16.5 does not cover them.

Thanks loads!  It's amazing how you can work with Codes for years, and still find a surprising nugget or two.
