Corrosion Rate of Steel Pipe for Waste Water?

Corrosion Rate of Steel Pipe for Waste Water?

Corrosion Rate of Steel Pipe for Waste Water?

(OP)
Can anyone point me to a source for corrosion rates of steel pipes that are located inside a building (dry conditions) that are used for kitchen waste water?  Waste-water in general would be OK.

I am trying to determine the remaining service life of a 60 year old building drainage system.  I believe that it is constructed of standard weight Wrought-Steel pipe.

RE: Corrosion Rate of Steel Pipe for Waste Water?

I'd bet that it's cast iron. You might want to also post this question on the Plumbing Engineering forum.

try this link for the cast iron and pipe institute;  http://www.cispi.org/faq.htm

HUD also has standards for life expectancy for various household components.  Waste piping is listed in my old manual as a 75-100 year life.

The manual might be available on-line by now.  Check around.
