Is Pro/Sheetmetal getting worse with every release?

Is Pro/Sheetmetal getting worse with every release?

Is Pro/Sheetmetal getting worse with every release?

(OP)
I am having problem after problem with every release of pro/sheetmetal or is it just me working to understand a new release.  My questions are as follows:

1. When creating a 1st wall revolved 360° creates a cylinder with a seam.  When I create a sheetmetal cut in the shape of a circle thruogh the cylinder it does not place an axis for the cylindrical cut.  Now by using the solid cut it will create the axis with a cylindrical cut.

2. When creating a flat instance from the rolled shell the ubending degrees still show up on the screen which is annoying due to the fact we are using images of the parts in documentation.

I have contacted PTC tech support about this and still have not recieved any kind of fix yet.  Any help or comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

What version of Pro/E?

"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.

We are using Wildfire 2.0 release M090.  We just upgrade from M050.

It's not the software...

1) Use Sketch-->Axis point in the sketch for the cylindrical cut. Remeber that SMT cuts always cut material normal to the sheetmetal surface, so a solid cut is geometrically wrong. You will end up with a knife-edge in the flat pattern.

2) Use Tool-->Environment--> 3D notes to hide the display of the bend angle. The same thing happens with a threaded hole, as it always has.

To suggest that Wildfire 2.0's sheetmetal has gotten "worse" just beacuse of something like this makes no sense. Having spent days in 2001 sheetmetal on projects, which now take me hours, I can defintely say that this release of Pro/Sheetmetal is far beyond any previous releases. I understand it is frustrating, but a little patience and you will get it..

Justkeepgiviner,

I guess in the middle of being frustrated I kind of dove into to fast stating it was "worse".  I didn't mean to offend you.  Thanks for the simple but very helpful information.  In 2000i the axis was automatically created when using a circular smt cut.  Why can't PTC's tech people give me a simple answer like this.  They are supposed to be the "pro's" I would have thought.  This is what makes me frustrated is trying to work with there tech support.

The other issue I had in sheetmetal was the arrow to show direction of view, side of material creation, and material thickening does not appear when in sheetmetal.  Have you had an issue with this?

Thanks,

Ben

Its okay. I wasn't offended by it... Trust me, I've gotten much more frustrated by Pro/E and have been known to use much more "colourful" language in the late hours of the night when im stuck with something or I lose a few hours of work.

The only arrow I don't see when making a revolve is for the direction of viewing the sketch, but that is determined by your orientation plane. The other two are there... When don't you see them? I'm still using M050.
