Silicon Bronze or Aluminum bronze in brackish water

Silicon Bronze or Aluminum bronze in brackish water

Silicon Bronze or Aluminum bronze in brackish water

A cooling tower manufacturer has proposed using silicon bronze bolting and trim in cooling water service containing 16,000 ppm chloride, 1 ppm H2S and 3 ppm ammonia at approximately 80F. Pressure from atmospheric to 60 psi. Does this selection appear feasible?

RE: Silicon Bronze or Aluminum bronze in brackish water

I used to put hardware into H2S and seawater, I used Monel K500 for high strength and NAB (Ni Al bronze) for low strength.

Ed,
Thanks for the quick reponse. I felt that Al Bronze, NiAl Bronze or Monel were good choices without resorting to Ni-Cr-Mo alloys. With the high price of Ni and Mo these days (I just received info of an approximate 15% increase in Ni the past week) NiAl Bronze would certainly be more economical.

The brackish cooling water is well water and I believe H2S should out gas when depressurized. Bolting is primarily connecting fiberglass components. Stress on bolts will not be high.
