Timber Frame / Heavy Timber Design

Timber Frame / Heavy Timber Design

Timber Frame / Heavy Timber Design

(OP)
Hello, I'm a bit out of my field here as a mech eng but doing some planning and sketches which I will be forwarding to a structural engineer.  Hoping to save some $ by discounting unsuitable designs before he does the detailed design.

I am designing what amounts to a very simple, single slope, heavy timber truss to span 16 ft lengths on top of heavy timber columns.  The truss will have a structural insulated panel on top resting on the top chord.

I am wondering where to start.  I was thinking of setting up some systems of equations in a spreadsheet and referencing the difference material section properties/sizes.

get a demo copy of SUPERBEAM 4. its great for simple post and beam analysis

Doesn't appear to do trusses... am I missing something?

RE: Timber Frame / Heavy Timber Design

This company will engineer, cut, drill holes, and ship large timber trusses to your location for assembly. They will probably provide you with proper designs at little or no cost.
