Hallo everybody,
When trying to create a drawing of a cast object i come across a problem.
The object is a part consisting of a revolved protrusion. Between the inner and outer diameter of the protrusion there are a couple of strengthening ribs (created with the rib command)
When i make a section view in the draft environment these ribs are hatched. I only want the solid body to be hatched and the ribs to be free of hatching. (as it should be acc. to drawing standards).
Anyone here knows a way to realise this?

i already tried part copy to make the ribs as a seperate part. This didn't solve the problem because one cannot construct a rib on a construction body, and when i create a part copy as design body the ribs are hatched again.

May be you should create an assembly instead of a part. Then, you will be able to choose which part are sectionned and which parts are not.(display tab in the prop of a view)
Otherwise, you can go to the properties of the view, uncheck the 'show fill style' option. Right Click on the view, choose 'draw in view', draw two lines (or more) to close the area(s) you want to hatch, and use the command 'fill'.
Another idea would be to create these ribs as surfaces in your 3D part : they would not be hatched but you could see them in your draft (view properties/display tab).

You could 'fudge' it by removing the auto hatching, drawing your own lines in the view and then manually hatching.
This can be a pain because hidden lines are still recognised as boundaries even when not displayed, so you can end up with lots of small hatch areas.
I suppose we need a 'do not section features of this type' option in draft - similar to having parts unsectioned in a drawing of an assembly.

Sorry for the late answer but i just found out that the pc i'm working at doesn't refresh the internet page automatically.
To make an assembly is not really an option. Already tried that.
The draw in view doesn't do the job either because i have to draw a lot of lines just to close the profile and after that apply a huge amount of hatches. (because the hidden lines are indeed detected as boundaries)
I'm gonna try the tip with surfaces this weekend. It seems like a good idea. The only problem i foresee now is that my weigth won't be right and it's gonna be difficult to include it in the family of parts i'm using.
