NX3 Exploded View

NX3 Exploded View

I am able to create and save exploded views in modeling, but when I try to insert them into a drawing, they are unexploded.  What step am I missing?  TIA!

RE: NX3 Exploded View

You must import the exploded view, not insert.

"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.

Ben,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I may be able to find a work around for now.  The problem I have run into is my trying to follow the documentation, which states:

"Create an exploded view of your assembly (For details on how to do this see the Assemblies Online Documentation).

After you create the exploded view, perform a Fit on the view and save the view.

Go to the drawing and use Insert->View -> Base View to import the view of the exploded view you created in the above steps"

RE: NX3 Exploded View

I'm still on NX2 but I ran into a similar problem recently. It seems you need to perform the explosion after you save the veiw.

The top view was my work view, I oriented the view to trimetric and did a save as... (name: my_exp), then did the explosion and finally added the my_exp view on the drawing. It worked, doing it the other way around ended up with my top view being exploded and the my_exp view wasn't.

cowski,

Thanks for the tip!  Didn't work for me, though.  I'll try asking on the BBS next, and then a call to GTAC.  It gets frustrating trying to figure out how to do simple operations using the documentation provided.

RE: NX3 Exploded View

Also, make sure the explosion is activated (ie it doesn't say 'no explosion' in the explosion toolbar).

cowski,

The explosion toolbar is grayed out when I am in drafting.  How do you make it active?

RE: NX3 Exploded View

Sorry, some clarification is necessary.

I meant when you are in the modeling side the explosion should be active.

Gotcha.  It has been active.  I go back into modeling and the view is still exploded.

I am in NX2. I see no difference between importing a view and inserting a view. Am I missing something?
Thank you

After going over this problem with GTAC, It seems that this problem is related to this one drawing file on this one computer.
I am starting the drawing over (using the same drawing seed file) and have had no problems yet.
