External Threading

(OP)
Hi All,

I have looked at the Help file and a few of the forum readers websites but can still not find an Answer. So I hope I can not be called lazy after I ask this question?

Anyhow? Is there an external thread feature in Solidworks 2k5 01.1? Is it a 3D sketch feature or a Helix/Spiral base?

Regards,

M-J

Thanks For the help. How would you suggest threading the part without a true thread?

I ask as I regularly convert to .dxf for our CNC machines.

Regards,

M-J

RE: External Threading

We don't model thds for CNC. EIther the CAM software has the data for threads or the machinist has the tools. IMO, modelling thds is a waste of time.

RE: External Threading

Check out cosmetic threads in help.

A couple more threads that showed up on a search for external threads and include cosmetic threads:

RE: External Threading

UG has a thread feature that creates a 3d thread or cosmetic. Didn't think it was a big deal but since we have a 3d printer in house and run parts on it constantly, having the threads there helps.
