When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

(OP)
When I rotate any assembly, everything is blocks and squares. It doesn't matter on the size of the assembly.

I am running
-solidworks 2005 sp 0.0
-XP pro
-1 gig ram
-3.05 P4
-ATI FireGl X1 AGP Pro Video card (128mb I think)

It didn't used to do this and now all of a sudden it does.
Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks!

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

Is your video card & driver recommended by SWx?

yep.. my usual assemblies are in access of 3-4,000 components.
Then I would expect blocks.

But now, with even small assemblies, I get blocks. Never used to happen before. I am sure there is a setting somewhere, I just can't find it. I have tried alot of stuff and nothing has helped.

Thanks for your reply.

Tools, Options, change quantity in lg assy mode. Also change assy so everything loads lightweight. Should also upgrade to 2 gig RAM.

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

Have you run a Windows Update recently? Are you sure it did not "upgrade" your video card driver to a non-certified one?

Can you open the assemblies on other machines?

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

Pre 2005 - Performance options / "Remove detail during zoom/pan/rotate"

2005 - In Performance options and Large Assembly Mode options, the Remove detail during zoom/pan/rotate option has been replaced by the Level of detail slider.

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

Ohh, did you mean only  while rotating? If so, then Stoker is bang on.

yep.. stoker got it! Fixed!

Why should I upgrade to 2 gigs ram?

And would I have to do anything to solidworks to get it to work with it. Thanks!

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

We have pc's with 1 gig and most with 2. The ones with 2 are much faster and more efficient, especially with SW05.

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

Yea the answer to this is

Tools/Performance/level of details

I turned it off and works fine!

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

RE: When I rotate, everything is blocks and squares

Yea I did and what I posted above is what controls the details of the objects when rotated. The user can instruct the computer as to how much detail should the object retain while rotation. Well apparently, nothing slows down as one might expect think if I ask it to remember the details (by turning it off we do not give it an option to supress some details!)
