Shifting linkage adjustment

Shifting linkage adjustment

(OP)
I had to cut the 2nd gear shift are on the steering wheel, to allow room, for a dual exhust manifold on my 1941 chevy. What can I do too make it shift smoothly again? I have tried all the adjustments. Will cutting the other arm, the same amount, help?

Thanks; Dick Lyon

RE: Shifting linkage adjustment

1941 chev had vac assisted shift om the main lever with a second lever to change range of  main lever from r/1 to2/3
what did you cut?  OR WAS THE VAC CYL REMOVED  IF YOU CUT THE MAIN LEVER AND IT SHIFTS HARD YOU MAY TRY SHORTENING THE ONE ON THE COLOUMN .I BELIEVE I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. I REBUILT MANY OF THEM . THEY DID CHANGE OVER THE YEARS ,MANY REMOVED THE VAC CYL YOU HAD TO LUBE IT AND ADJ IT CORRECTLY AND IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM YOU COULD SHIFT WITH 2 FINGERS
