Sulfuric acid tank ceramic valve source?

Sulfuric acid tank ceramic valve source?

Sulfuric acid tank ceramic valve source?

(OP)
I am having difficulty locating a “carrot” valve, (Ceramic or porcelain plug valve), for atmospheric sulfuric acid storage tanks. Formally made by Kingsport Foundry in Kingsport TN for decades which apparently recently went out of business. Consists of a hand crank that fits a standard ANSI flange and an Alloy 20 rod connected to a ceramic plug valve for use in horizontal storage tanks. Google search results in manufacturers of the ceramic plug portion vs. a company fabricating the entire assembly. Any leads appreciated.

tfe lined valves are genererally used as replacements

This is a replacement tank so I am hoping to find someone who still fabricates this style. Basically it allows the acid flow to be stopped from the top of the tank so the outlet valve can be replaced when necessary. I am assuming the outlet valves would be teflon lined. If there is another replacement technology that can shut off the acid flow at the outlet from the insde of the tank, that would be considered an acceptable alternative. Any suggestions appreciated.

You may need to have a shop duplicate or rebuild your valve. You might contact General Chemical for referral,

Good luck,

jlcochran1,

I too have spent time several years ago looking for this exact kind kind of valve !!

This odd "carrot plug" valve was only used in horizontal axis, sulfuric acid storage tanks.

The virtue of the valve was that the iron sludge that accumulates over years of service (in carbon steel tanks) was broken by the brute force of cranking up on the valve. You can, of course get every drop of acid out of the tank with these valves

Another configuration that works is to place the discharge nozzle slightly higher on the tank shell and use an Alloy 20 plug valve with a big operator. Otherwise, you can simply drain and clean your acid tanks more often
