Chromate Passivation

Chromate Passivation

Chromate Passivation

(OP)
Is it possible to perform Chromate Passivation by using Trivalent Cr process without depositing any Hex Chrome?

If not, is the amount of Hex Cr typically acceptable for the limits imposed by the RoHS?

And what are people in this country doing about this issue?

Jack

RE: Chromate Passivation

Chromate passivation using trivalent chromium can meet the European End of Life Directive for hazardous substances.

To which country do you refer?  The USA?  Only ~ 33% of Eng-Tips users are from the USA - see here for more information:

People around the world are handling this issue roughly the same.  You should contact any supplier of yours that supplies hexavalent chromium-containing sources and request alternatives.  If they cannot do that, then contact new suppliers.  If you need recommendations for new suppliers, please provide more information on the application.

Cory
