O-ring solution

O-ring solution

O-ring solution

(OP)
Hello, I have been dealing with a repeated problem with o-rings failing in a pressure regulator which is used in an industrial application. We have tried Buna-N seals, Viton and now looking at Teflon. The Buna seals split/crack while the viton distorts (deforms shape) The chemical we use is cetylpyridinium chloride(CPC)(0.1%). It has a pH of 7.2 and does contain some food grade animal fat/oils. I was thinking about EPDM but I was told "it is susceptible to attack by oils"(in petroleum oils) What about food grade animal fat/oils? The temp ranges up to 180F with pressure up to 250psi. I am also looking into teflon encapsulated o-rings with a viton core to see if its better/cheaper as well as looking into Gore Tex,Chemraz or Atlas if their cost effective. Also I was told that Viton does not work well with hot water is that true?
thanks
Djuane

RE: O-ring solution

What is the basic difference between Viton and Buna N

RE: O-ring solution

Buna N is "nitrile" rubber.

Viton(R) is a fluoropolymer compound, made by DuPont.
