Ice Clogging Drilled Holes

Ice Clogging Drilled Holes

Ice Clogging Drilled Holes

(OP)
Our driller predrills holes for our blaster. What's happening is the top 4 feet of the holes have been feezing? Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this and how. The drill has moved off-site typically by the time the blaster arrives.
Thanks

RE: Ice Clogging Drilled Holes

I would think you could keep the holes open using electrically heated rods.

RE: Ice Clogging Drilled Holes

Would ann filler work?  How about simple metal rods to just fill the holes?  If you don't want metal us HDPE.  They should slide out of ice easily.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

RE: Ice Clogging Drilled Holes

Use hole plugs or tar paper to cover the holes.  Sometimes, the plugs will freeze in the holes which is bad too.

We use cut up conveyor belts and tar paper.  Make a tar paper cone and stick it in the hoel to keep out debris, etc.  Leave about a foot sticking out to make it easy to remove.

Or, use the conveyor belt to cover the hole.  Sometimes, we use both.

RE: Ice Clogging Drilled Holes

Use polyurethane foam (PUF) which comes in portable bags & can be mixed on-site by hand rapidly. The PUF plug is insulating and can be drilled thru rapidly. Contact MineSeal, LLC (www.mine-seal.com).
