Spring Constants

Spring Constants

(OP)
I am working on a 40-srory building in Miami, Florida. The building is going to be supported on 30-inch 650 tons augecast piles. Total settlement of the building is of the order of 3 to 4 inches. The structural engineer is asking me to provide vertical and horizontal spring constants? How can estimate these values?

RE: Spring Constants

Given that the spring constants are non-linear...

I suggest you talk with the structural about what he/she is trying to accomplish with these spring constants.

RE: Spring Constants

Geope:

You can obtain the constants through theoritical formulations or better through field tests. You'd better ask the designer what kind of constant springs he is asking for static or dynamic!!

In a project we recently executed the spring constants for 25 mts Square prefabricated concrete piles 400 x 400 were.

Static conditions         cver =   250000 kN/m;    chor = 180000 kN/m
Dynamic conditions    cver = 1250000 kN/m;    chor = 900000 kN/m
