Help,
My experience lies with PLC & SCADA side of electrical engineering, but my new job calls for a lot of involvement with specifying / mainatining / working with Motors and Inverters. And thats where I fall flat... Can anyone suggest good sites / training (UK based) on BASIC motor & inverter systems - mainly AC induction motors. I have an application where an existing 2.2Kw motor will be replaced a 1.1Kw Motor - will the existing J100 2.2kW Hitachi inverter control the new motor - what changes need to be put in place etc

RE: Intro to Motors/Drives & replace 2.2Kw with 1.1Kw

I think that the ABB basic training course is just right for you.

"This Computer-based Training (CBT) product is the
ideal training program for individuals that are new
to Variable Frequency AC Drives (VFD’s). This
program is also essential to people that require a
refresher course, but can’t afford the time to study
on-the-job. Since the program is computer-based,
many employees can be training a relatively short
period of time (3 to 5 hours each)."

Hvae a look at the www.abb.com site and look for "drives" and then "documentation". There are several good papers. Plus the CBT cited above.

And, yes. If your 1.1 kW motor is enough for the load, there should not be any problem running it from a 2.2 kW inverter.

The only change will be the over current parameter which you will need to set for your new motor.

The only training course I have heard about in the UK is at Control Techniques:

I don't know anyone who has attended though.
