Intersection SIF question

Intersection SIF question

Intersection SIF question

(OP)
OK I should know the answer to this, but...

How would you fellers consider the SIF to be calculated for a socketweld tee?  If you look in Appendix D, a SW tee does not really fit into any of the classifications there.  A SW tee is B16.11, not B16.9.

Thanks!
Pete

Thanks!

RE: Intersection SIF question

Check about 2/3 down the page in technical papers and there is on Socket Welds that migh be of assistance.  There is a Phase I but I haven't been able to find it.

RE: Intersection SIF question

If you are using B31.3, remember also that you have SIFs at every socket-weld in your system whether it's a tee or not.

NozzleTwister - Can you please cite a code section for this?  I can't seem to find it.

Thanks!

RE: Intersection SIF question

74Elsinore,
Have a look at second table in Table D-300 which gives SIF's for fillet welds (socket welded fittings).

RE: Intersection SIF question

What code are you using? If you are using B31.1, SIF value is listed on Appendix D, table D-1 under Fillet weld.

Ugh, I found it.  Embarrassing.  I was only looking at the intersection table.  Of course it was right below.  If it was a snake it would'a bit me.  I am using 31.3.  Thanks guys!

Thanks!
Pete
