Stainless Steel for Impact

Stainless Steel for Impact

(OP)
Can someone suggest a stainless steel that can be hardened to 55 RC and has good impact toughness?

Corrosion resistance is really not an issue as I am only considering stainless as a replacement for low alloy carbon steel because stainless responds better to a nitriding process I am considering.

Thanks in advance.

Bill

RE: Stainless Steel for Impact

The classic grade for this is 420. There are several much more expensive grades which are sometimes used for knife blades, which engineers at Crucible or Timken/Latrobe could help you with.
