BALLOONING WELDMENTS!!!

BALLOONING WELDMENTS!!!

BALLOONING WELDMENTS!!!

(OP)
ALL,
I'm finding weldments to be a bit frustrating.  I am trying to balloon an isometric view of a part consisting of 3 different kinds of weldment members.  I cannot get the balloons I place to match the item numbers in the weldment cut list.  Please help!

RE: BALLOONING WELDMENTS!!!

The weldments must be in their own Cut-list. If you have 3 weldments in one cut-list, then those 3 weldments will contain the same Balloon. If you want those 3 weldments to have their Balloon, then you need to add each weldment to it's own cut-list in the part.

I tested this in SW05 SP1.0 and it works fine here.

RE: BALLOONING WELDMENTS!!!

A couple of things to check:

Is the ISO view the same config as the view the cut-list was inserted from?

Is the sketch that is driving the weldment shown?  I have found that if the sketch gets selected when placing balloons, it will have balloon # 0.  This is easy to do if the sketch lies on a member edge.

RE: BALLOONING WELDMENTS!!!

Ok, well, when creating structural members, by default cutlists are created to include only the same types of members.  So that wasn't the problem in my model.

I changed the view's config to match that of the cut list and it worked.  However, I then ran into a new problem all together.

I am using SW's default configurations, as machined, and as welded (derived). When I created my model, the only machined features it had were some holes.  I suppressed these in the as welded config. Under this scenario I got the following results:

1. When the cut list references as-welded, and the dwg view references as-machined, the balloons are zero.

2. when the cut list and the dwg view both reference the as-welded config, the balloons are correct.

But I need my dwg views to all show as-machined. Well, get this...

I went into the as-welded config. and UNSUPPRESSED holes so that now there is no difference between the as-machined and the as-welded configurations.  And no matter what combo of configurations you have between the views and the cut list table, it always works!

So unless I suppress the machined features in the as- welded configuration (which is what you're SUPPOSED to do!), everything works correctly.  It's only when there are suppressed features that SW doesn't recognize that the members in both configurations are the same.

So what is the point of these 2 default configurations if they aren't going to work correctly???  Apparently, the only time you should suppress machined features is if you are going to create your entire drawing as-welded!

RE: BALLOONING WELDMENTS!!!

If you are going to make a separate as welded and as machined drawings then in the as machined drawing you would say alter weldment 1234.  Balloons are not required.  In the as welded drawing, you balloon the sub items and all is well.  If you are going to only make one drawing showing the as machined and put a BOM to show the subparts then unsuppress the machined features in the as welded and all is well two.  Where I work we make two drawings.
