Looking for Help on a Material Callout

Looking for Help on a Material Callout

Looking for Help on a Material Callout

(OP)
I've got a drawing that is calling out a Material Spec that I've never seen before.  The drawing is calling out the following:

Mat'l: MAT E.T.P. (5C SHOTBLAST UNMELTED)
       135#-:0149
       .25# TIN

If anyone can help me out with interpretation, it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Rich....

RE: Looking for Help on a Material Callout

In copper, ETP means "Electrolytic Tough Pitch."  ETP copper is used for electrical wires, bus bars, etc.

RE: Looking for Help on a Material Callout

Please give a little more information, such as what context or referenced to is the callout used.
What are you making or building?

RE: Looking for Help on a Material Callout

For sheet steel, ETP can be Electrolytic Tin Plate, meaning steel sheet with the element tin electroplated onto it.

TIN may be titanium nitride, whose chemical formula is TiN, and is used as a wear resistant coating.

Cory

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.

RE: Looking for Help on a Material Callout

This appears to be a tin plate steel sheet requirement with a blast mat finish (obtained during the temper roll), with differential tin plating coating (weight)thickness on either side. Tin plating is electrolytically deposited without melting so you get a flat finish. The .0149 is the thickness in inches or 28 gauge.

RE: Looking for Help on a Material Callout

When in doubt, contact the customer who sent the dwg. Some companies have unique material codes that appear to be a different material than intended.
