The workstation to beat?

The workstation to beat?

-dual PCI Express(TM) graphics workstation with support for NVIDIA Quadro SLI(TM) (Scalable Link Interface)

I wish they test this in CATBench...

Cray, HP and Sun - AMD Dual-Core Demonstrations Get Two Thumbs up at LinuxWorld
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/050215/146384_1.html

Demonstrated systems include a Cray XD1 supercomputer; the HP xw9300 Workstation powered by two dual-core AMD Opteron processors along with NVIDIA SLI dual PCI Express(TM) technology; the record-breaking HP ProLiant DL585 using four dual-core processors; and a Sun Fire V40z server powered by four dual-core AMD Opteron processors.

RE: The workstation to beat?

The 16GB of memory won't help until Dassault fixes CATIA and Microsoft fixes Windows.

The "quad" processors won't help outside of the analysis stuff.

I can't imagine there's a need for SLI video unless you do a lot of real-time-rendering. I wouldn't be able to make any use of it.

It would be cool, though.

And how can Microsoft fix Windows?
I keep wondering why Dassault is not releasing a Linux version... Are they that afraid of Microsoft? I remember I read somewhere that they have it ready.

I could really use more processing power for optimization, I'm not sure V5 is dual processor enabled.
As for SLI video, I would rather know the power is available if I need it, something like the cars we drive, we don't really need that much power but is good to have it!

RE: The workstation to beat?

Hi,

Sorry, I don't want to pay for something I do not use...

Would you pay for a complete licence of V5 if you do only PartDesign ?

RE: The workstation to beat?

How would they fix windows? Re-write the kernel to enable more memory per process.
