Generator netral grounding transformers
Generator netral grounding transformers
(OP)
I'm working on a generation upgrade project where the client wants to replace existing oil filled generator neutral grounding transformers. They are 14 kV/240V 10 kVA (with a load resisitor of 1 OHM). Is there any reason why only oil type of the transformer should be employed for this purpose or an epoxy dry type would be as good assuming it enclosure can fit in a rather limited space. Thank you for any info.

Legacy stator-grounding literature like IEEE C37.101 refers to the process as “distribution-transformer grounding,” and to some degree fluid-insulated habits probably die hard. For smaller transformers, flammability safety and high BILs available in epoxy-insulated drytypes, I can’t much reason not to use them.
