Exporting a AutoCAD pic into MS Word...HELP!!!!
Exporting a AutoCAD pic into MS Word...HELP!!!!
(OP)
What I want to know is if there is a way to take portion of an AutoCAD 2000 file and put it into a MS Word document? I have a bunch of MS Word files that give info about Air Handler Units and want to be able to insert a pic showing what area of a building that a particular Air Handler controls. Can anyone help?

First get the view you want in your ACAD window
Then press ctrl-shift-printscreen
This will make an image of your entire screen pasted to the clipboard.
Next open MSPAINT and paste (ctrl-v) the image. It will probably tell you that the image in the clipboard is larger than the bitmap. Select yes to enlarge it. Now you should have a bitmap of your entire screen.
Next, still in PAINT, select the little dashed rectangle and draw a window around the specific part you want to use and do a copy (ctrl-c)
Start a new image and paste this one into it.
Now you should have just the image you want.
Next you need to invert the colors in the image (unless your background is already white, then you dont need to)
After doing this you can change it to black and white under the image, attributes selection.
Now you should have a nice black and white image that you can save and then insert it into word.

Now go to FILE>EXPORT this will bring up a save as a wmf (Windows Meta File) option. Select the items in the drawing you want to show and your done.
From Word just insert and size the wmf file as needed.

Been there, done that. Here you go...
First, you need to make sure that you have the image enhancement package for MS Word that so that you can import DXF files. It's downloadable from Microsoft.
Next, save your drawing as a DXF and then import the DXF file into word. Done! The imported image is scalable, and you can chage the colors of the different entities if necessary, but can be time consuming if it's a complex image.

You may need to crop the picture in word (format picture command). This works fine if you do not require a permanent association between the Autocad drawing and the word file.
