Pole Base Calculation

Pole Base Calculation

Pole Base Calculation

(OP)
Can anyone tell me what you use in calculating pole base dimensions for lighting poles?  I've got the information I use in specifying the pole, but I don't have a tensile strength for the soil's resistance to the pole base's torque.  How do I know how much pole base is enough for a given soil type?

Thanks!

MW

RE: Pole Base Calculation

If you have kind of a typical lihgt pole, such as a street light, foundations are pretty typical, Your state's DOT or local precaster can probably give you details with some limiting guide lines. If it larger than that, you proably want to get a geotech engineer involved. For a little more guidance, AASHTO has  a design guide for light pole foundations. (www.aashto.org - I think)

Good Luck
