Greek symbols in MSword

Greek symbols in MSword

Greek symbols in MSword

(OP)
Recently I downloaded a paper on horizontal storage tanks.  All greek characters, graphs and text were successfully downloaded and stored on the harddrive and CD's but when printed on paper w/ MSword none of the greek characters used for the equations printed out. Is there a switch that needs to be activated or is this MSword text editor not capable of performing the task. HELP!!

RE: Greek symbols in MSword

Does Word display the characters on the screen?  If so, it's not a problem with Word.

Your printer may not support those fonts, in which case, you need to go into the options and set the flag for downloading unsupported fonts as graphics.

IRSTUFF-MY PRINTER PRINTED ALL THE GREEK SYMBOLS AND GRAPHS OK LAST NIGHT--THE PRINTER AT WORK IS THE ONE THAT DID NOT DO THE JOB AND I'LL CHECK IT OUT-- THANKS!!

RE: Greek symbols in MSword

C,
You've been here long enough to know not to cap everything

Did the computer at work display the characters?  You could try going to Options|Save|Embed True Type Fonts, in case there's some discrepancy with fonts at work.

ir--i like to cap--matter of preference which may conflict w/ convention.

RE: Greek symbols in MSword

It's not just as matter of convention, but an issue of readability.  Your brain is trained to recognize shapes and the variation of shapes with lower case is much higher than with caps, thus making lower case easier to read.

RE: Greek symbols in MSword

The convention in most forua is that all caps indicates SHOUTING.  After while it gets so that the reader's blood pressure goes up a notch when they see the all caps even before they read it.  Not a good place to start asking for help.

The Greek symbols are in several different fonts, some are not as widely available as others.  If you make sure that the downloaded document uses the "Symbol" font under the "Insert", "Symbol" command then you'll have a really good chance to have your symbol show up correctly on any printer.  This font seems to be loaded just about everywhere, but some of the other choices are hit and miss.
