Non-Metalic Expansion Joints

Non-Metalic Expansion Joints

(OP)
Aloha,
We have been having problems with our boiler expansion joints getting holes in them.  Sometimes big ones.  We have been using metal expansion joints and are considering non-metalic expansion joints.  We believe that they might be more resistant to corrosion.  We are burning no.6 fuel oil, low sulfor.

How long should we expect the expansion joints to last?
We feel that one down fall is that inability to put on a temp. repair if one does start to leak.

I am looking for any informationt that anyone may have on this type of joint.

Thanks,
Mike

RE: Non-Metalic Expansion Joints

dear decaprio,

I doubt any textile material will last longer. Did you consider metallic joints, materials acc to NACE 0175?. Might be , also, a bad choice of the material, in terms of allowable temperature. Did you check the aspect of the holes? By the way, which is the working temperature? didn't you have accidental raises in temperature's value?
